Why just read about history when you can live it?
At Pioneer Living History Village you will step back in time to the Arizona Territorial period, 1863 to 1912, to see and feel how the early pioneers lived and worked in the harsh, unforgiving environment of this diverse land. When you take the self-guided walking tour through the Village, you discover a world devoid of paved streets, electricity, or running water that our ancestors once inhabited. Our “Classroom without walls” provides an enriching educational encounter by showing you the dwellings, tools, and everyday implements used by Arizona’s early residents to tame a frontier. Educators and students alike will find our Village an invaluable learning experience that will make them want to return again and again. This site will provide detailed instructions on just how to go about booking a school field trip.
For the general public, Pioneer Living History Village presents a more diverse history of Arizona than probably any other location in the state because the buildings and artifacts were relocated here from every part of the state. To complete the territorial timeline, even the recreated buildings are all based on an actual structure that once existed.
But there is fun and entertainment at Pioneer Living History Village too! Our Gun Safety Demonstration and Cowboy Action Shootout, presented by performers in period clothing, takes place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 am, weather permitting and when gunfighter volunteers are available, in our Event Arena. Visit our Gift Store to purchase a variety of souvenirs, snacks, and beverages. Tables are available on our main street, Lockett Avenue, if you opt to bring your own picnic lunch, or you can sit on the cool grass of our Town Green. You will also find a working blacksmith.
So don’t just sit at home wondering what it must have been like to live in the Old West. Saddle up and come out to Pioneer Living History Village and see it firsthand, Partner! |
